Interestingly this railway station isn’t in, or even near the large naval town of Portsmouth in Hampshire. It is named after a public house in a rural location of Devon which it happens to be close to. The station serves a a collection of rural villages about 28 miles to the north of Exeter close to Barnstaple on the Tarka Line.
