Avonmouth Station is in a town at the mouth of the River Avon and the Bristol Channel and has effectively become part of metropolitan Bristol as the city has grown in size. The station primarily serves the docklands and contains some of the largest shipping facilities in the southwest of England. Many of the larger scale industrial works in the area concentrate on the manufacture of chemicals. The area is close to the Severn Bridge, one of the largest road bridges in the United Kingdom.
