Saltcoats is a strange name for a town and a railway station. It is thought that the area gained its title from once being the home of many salt workers cottages and the name has corrupted from there. The station is the main rail access point for the people of this small Scottish town and surrounding areas as part of the Ayrshire Coast Line.
