This station serves the south beach area of the town. Although the town of Ardrossan itself is an example of the post industrial mellae of this area of Scotland it is surrounded by exceptional natural beauty. On a clear day visitors are treated to a breathtaking view of the Isle of Arran across the sea. Immediately outside the harbour is the small island called Horse Island. This is an RSPB bird sanctuary and is home to some rare sea birds including the Lesser Black Backed Gull. The town was built around the castle of the same name and still has many fine examples of ancient buildings.
