Although only a small interchange, the area around Ammanford Station is the shopping centre and transport hub for the many satelitte villages of the region. Like many towns in South Wales the community in this town relied traditionally on the once thriving coal mining industry. However since its demise in the 1980s many of the people found themselves having to retrain for new jobs. Therefore this community is still one in transition as it finds its feet in commerce and light industry.
