Aberdare Station serves an industrial town in the valleys of South Wales. The town grew dramatically in the first half of the twentieth century to accommodate the need for a large amount of industrial workers and ir was at this time that the station was built. However since the nineteen eighties a great deal of the heavy industry has been lost and thus the population has begun to dwindle. The town is famous for having been home to Second World War poet Alun Lewis and modern rock band the Stereophonics. The town has numerous ancient churches.
