The village was established close to Dover in Kent during the 1920’s when miners from across the region wanted a new place to live close to the Snowdown Colliery. The fields and woods around the village are a popular place for locals and visitors to walk, jog and cycle, especially during the summer months. This relatively small rural community lost a great deal of its populous in a mass emigration to Australia in the 1960s.
