This station is situated on the River Tyne in a small community close to Hexham in Northumberland. The station is managed by Northern Rail and is on the line between Carlisle and Newcastle. The area around the station is rural and agricultural. Much of the area is of great natural beauty and during the summer months the station is a popular interchange for those going on walking trips in the countryside.
