Appley Bridge is a small station in the metropolitan borough of Wigan close to Greater Manchester. This relatively sleepy part of a very vibrant area was once industrial and produced pain and linoleum products. Today the area around the station does still have some light industry but primarily serves as a resedential area for commuters who travel by road and rail into Manchester. The village has a few shops, pubs and restaurants.
