Located in the London Borough of Southwark, Rotherhithe is a peninsular on the south bank of the River Thames in east London. The area has been associated with maritime history since at least Elizabethan times and still has links with the sea. It was the site from which the Mayflower left London to carry the Pilgrim Fathers to Virginia in 1620. Nearby is a large road tunnel named after the suburb.
