Moorgate is named after one of the smaller gates into the City of London when it used to be surrounded by a fortified wall. The wall and the gate no longer remain but there are still many fascinating historic buildings in the area including the Guildhall and Moorhouse. However much of this area as with most of the City of London is now dominated by modern financial institutions and banking halls.
