Lewisham is an urban area of southeast London. The station is part of the Dockland Light Railway transport system and comprises one part of an extremely busy transport hub that intersects with many of the largest roads leading south from London. The area is multi-ethnic and has in the past been the sight of flashpoints between fascist demonstrators and anti-fascist protestors, most notably the Battle of Lewisham in 1977 when over 10,000 anti fascists clashed on the streets with the national front.
