Hornchurch is a largely suburban development around 15 miles to the east of the centre of London. It is one of the furthest flung stations on the Underground network and is on the border between Greater London and metropolitan Essex. During the Second World War the station was home to many Spitfire squadrons who helped to win the Battle of Britain. The suburb is home to the excellent 500 seat Queens Theatre that attracts eclectic performances from around the country.
