The name Holloway is derived from the ancient cattle route that ran through north London from the countryside into the central Smithfield Market. The main Holloway Road is now known as the A1 but follows the predominantly Roman road that hasn’t changed much in the last two thousand years. Holloway is one of the poorest areas in London and is quite deprived by the areas standards. It is home to Her Majesty’s Prison at Holloway that is the largest women’s prison in the UK
