This station has a great social history, once being swarmed by many thousands of Londoners at all time during the summer months as they tried to access the nearby Hampstead Heath which was once the most popular tourist destination in the capital. Although still a popular attraction the station is not as well used anymore and has been partially rebuilt after damage occurred in the 1990s.
