Finchley is a leafy and affluent suburb of north London. It is a far cry from the busy streets of the centre of the capital. Interestingly Finchley Central station is the home station of Harry Beck, the man who designed the original tube map. This iconic swirl of different coloured lines intersecting quickly became the blueprint for all city metro systems across the world. There is a commemorative plaque on the south side of the station. It is on the High Barnet branch of the Northern Line.
