Built to accommodate the commuting needs of the ever-expanding east end of London, this station was opened in the early 1930s. Positioned close to the end of the District Line the station serves a busy and cosmopolitan east London community. Like many of the stations on the edge of the London Underground network, it is a grey area as to whether this station is to be considered as part of Greater London or metropolitan Essex.
