The station is situated on the border between Greater London and the county of Essex. Dagenham is a largely working class community to the east of London. For many years the focus of the employment in Dagenham has been at the large Ford car manufacturing plant at Dagenham Motors. Heathway is a district of Dagenham to the west of the main town centre.
