This mainline station stands next to the London Underground Station of the same name. Originally named Aldersgate, Barbican station is located at the heart of ’the city’, London’s financial district. Nearby is Smithfield’s Meat Market, one of the largest and most famous markets in the capital, often referred to as ’the larder of London’. The station also serves the Barbican Arts Centre. The station is in Travelcard zone 1 for the purposes of internal journeys within the capital, but the station also allows easy access to leave London.
