This station serves a suburban area in the heart of the industrial Midlands. The area close to the station is primarily residential serving as a dormitory area for the larger nearby towns and cities that the station provides easy access to. A great deal of the heavy industry of the area has fallen into decline and recent decades and been replaced by moderate commerce.
