This station was built in the late 1990s as a direct result of the construction of the enormous Lakeside Shopping Centre at Thurrock in Essex. The station did until 2000 provide a bus service direct to the centre but now there is a bridge in place so shoppers can walk directly to one of the biggest shopping centres in the world.
