Audley End Station is named after Audley End House and estate that lies just a few hundred yards from interchange. The charming country house was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh who also designed Castle Howard in Yorkshire. The station itself is in the tiny village of Wendens Ambo but effectively serves as the main train station for the residents of the lovely market town of Saffron Walden which is just a few miles away. The station is used heavily as a commuter interchange due to its easy access to London Liverpool Street.
