‘The Granite City’ as it is known is the third largest city in Scotland and this station lies at the heart of Aberdeen. It is the ‘oil capital’ of Europe due to the plentiful supplies of crued oil located just off the coast in the North Sea. Oil has therefore become an important part of the economy with many off the locals involved in some way. The city has prospored from its ‘black gold’ and boasts some of the finest architecture, art galleries, churches and shopping streets in Scotland. The area around the station is extremely beautiful in the centre and well worth a visit.
